La risposta è di rara efficacia comica: freddo natalizio senza nemmeno il conforto del Natale, fame nera assediata da fumi di pasta e fagioli, uomini costretti a digiunare mentre i soliti caporali mangiano senza ritegno, un grande piatto di pastasciutta da dividersi in tre, briganti o somari poco importa. Tanto che al capocomico Felice Papocchia, anche lui come tutti gli altri spesso e volentieri a digiuno, non resta che dire in verità e nobiltà d’arte: “Non siamo saltimbanchi, ma artisti sfortunati!”
